Rep. Bass Addresses "Unprecedented and Unacceptable" Action By President Jammeh in The Gambia

December 12, 2016
Press Release
WASHINGTON - Rep. Karen Bass (D-Calif.), Ranking Member of the House Subcommittee on Africa, Global Health, Global Human Rights, and International Organizations, issued the following statement on the election in The Gambia.

"On the heels of what was a peaceful and successful process which resulted in the election of current President-Elect Barrow, President Jammeh, who conceded the election on December 2, 2016, now seeks to overturn the electoral process. This unprecedented and unacceptable  move by Jammeh seeks to rob ordinary Gambians of an opportunity of living in a peaceful, democratic country with a President elected by the majority of the citizens.  At this critical time, I look forward to the African Union and ECOWAS working in concert with regional leaders and the international community to address the urgent situation facing The Gambia."
