Academy Nominations

Each year I have the pleasure of nominating outstanding young men and women from the 21st District to four of the United States' military service academies. Each applicant for a nomination must meet the following eligibility requirements as of July 1st of the year of admission to an academy:

AGE: Be between 17 and 23 years old.

CITIZENSHIP: Must be a U.S. citizen.

On Sunday, March 6, 2016, my office is hosting Service Academy Day, an information session for those interested in learning more about the nomination process. More information can be found here.

Applicants are carefully evaluated based on numerous qualifications. These include character, scholarship, leadership, physical fitness, medical fitness and motivation.

Interested students should contact my office in Kerrville in the spring of their junior year in high school to begin the application process.

Nominations for the high school graduating class of 2017 will open up on April 1, 2016.  The deadline for applying will be October 15, 2016. If you are interested in applying for a nomination for those students entering the academies in July of 2017 (academy graduating class of 2021), you may download a copy of the current application here, and fact sheet with resources by clicking here. You may also contact the Kerrville district office to have a copy mailed to you. Simply send in a request or use the one provided by clicking here. 

All students have four nomination sources. In addition to your United States Representative, it is advisable to request a nomination from both of your United States Senators and the Vice President of the United States. Those links can be found here:

NOTE: The US Coast Guard does not require a Congressional appointment. Appointments are considered solely on the basis of an annual nationwide competition.
