Washington, D.C. — Today, Congressman Peter Roskam (R-IL), along with Congressman Matt Cartwright (D-PA), introduced H.R. 4462, the Truth-In-Tuition Act. This bipartisan bill requires colleges and universities that receive federal funds to provide a four-year price model so students and families can better plan for the ever-increasing costs of higher education.

Congressman Roskam released the following statement:

“As parents, we want our children to have every opportunity to succeed. For many, a college education is key to social mobility and individual prosperity. Staggering and often unpredictable tuition costs make it extremely difficult for the average family to send kids to college. Taking the mystery out of the cost of higher education is a critical first step. Colleges and universities that rely on federal dollars owe it to students and families to provide truth in tuition.”

This bill is modeled after a number of successful legislative efforts on the state level. In Illinois, public colleges and universities publish a financial roadmap thanks to a bill Roskam supported as a State Senator in 2003.
