Roskam’s Anti-BDS Provisions Signed by Speaker Ryan

Press Release

Washington, D.C. — Today, Speaker Paul Ryan, Ways & Means Chairman Kevin Brady, Representative Peter J. Roskam, and other House leaders gathered for a signing ceremony for the Trade Facilitation and Trade Enforcement Act of 2015.

Rep. Roskam authored key anti-Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) provisions that will soon become law. They clearly state Congress’s opposition to BDS, protect American companies that do business in Israel, and provide Congress with critical reports on the BDS movement. These efforts are in addition to anti-BDS provisions that were adopted and passed as part of TPA legislation earlier this year.

President Obama has announced his intention to sign the bill, though the White House singled out its disagreement with the Roskam provisions.

Rep. Roskam released the following statement:

“Congress has a long and proud history of standing up to economic warfare against Israel. Now we’re protecting American companies doing business in Israel from the perfidious Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions campaign. Make no mistake about it – this movement does not seek to steer Israel towards the negotiating table. BDS seeks to drive Israel into the sea.”

In May, Rep. Roskam wrote an Op-Ed in The Wall Street Journal on the BDS movement.
