Manufacturing Caucus
We continue to fight for quality, family-sustaining jobs across our region. These jobs can often be found in domestic manufacturing plants and advanced manufacturing fields right here in the United States. With that in mind, I am proud to be a Co-Chair of the bipartisan House Manufacturing Caucus.
Our mission is to examine and promote policies that help American manufacturers find trained and educated workers, while continuing to lead the world in developing new industrial technologies, operate on a fair and level playing field with their foreign competitors, and obtain the capital they need to thrive.
Last Congress, I introduced The Revitalize American Manufacturing Innovation (RAMI) Act with my colleague Congressman Joe Kennedy of Massachusetts. This bi-partisan legislation was a top priority of mine and I am pleased that it was signed into law by President Obama on December 16, 2014 as part of a larger package of legislation.
The passage of RAMI into law signals a recommitment to our American manufacturers and the American workforce. We believe the results of RAMI will help to spur growth in the manufacturing sector through public-private partnerships. These partnerships will be formed among higher education, both state and federal government agencies, private investors and manufacturers of all sizes to develop new and innovative technologies in areas of manufacturing which are critically necessary to our economy and national security.
Having a network of manufacturing institutes is what we need here in America to ‘make it here, sell it there.’ The Revitalize American Manufacturing and Innovation Act will add more manufacturing institutes to bolster private-sector job creation and advance our competitive edge. We will engage the best and the brightest minds in manufacturing, academia and business to move American manufacturing forward.
