Sen. Landrieu and Rep. Richmond: La. to Receive $575,000 in Housing Grants for Homeless Veterans

WASHINGTON — U.S. Senator Mary L. Landrieu, D-La., and Rep. Cedric Richmond, D-La., today announced that Louisiana will receive four grants totaling $575,000 to finance veterans housing initiatives. The funding is through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (VASH) program, which awards grants to public housing agencies that have agreed to partner with eligible VA medical facilities. VASH grants provide rental assistance under supportive housing programs to homeless veterans.

“These grants will help ensure that decent, affordable housing is available to our veterans,” Sen. Landrieu said. “After our soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines come home from the battlefield, they deserve our support for the sacrifices they have made during their years of service. Making sure each of our veterans can afford housing is the least we can do to honor their service and dedication to our country.”

“I strongly believe that we have a responsibility to all of those who have served our country and this duty does not have an end date,” Rep. Richmond said. “When our brave servicemen and women return from their service, it is the nation’s duty to provide certain benefits, including a pathway out of homelessness. I will continue to fight for our veterans to provide the benefits they deserve.”

The VASH grants announced today include:

• $100,187 to Bossier Parish

• $198,817 to the Housing Authority of East Baton Rouge

• $180,830 to the Housing Authority of New Orleans

• $94,818 to the Housing Authority of the City of Lafayette
