HOOKER, George W., a Sergeant at Arms from Vermont; born in Salem, N.Y., on February 6, 1838; attended the local schools; U.S. Army, 1861–1878; member of the Vermont state legislature, 1881–1883; elected Sergeant at Arms of the United States House of Representatives for the Forty-seventh Congress (December 5, 1881–December 4, 1883); died on August 6, 1902, in Brattleboro, Vt.; internment in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Brattleboro, Vt.
