BRANDT, Werner W., a Sergeant at Arms from Virginia; born in New York, N.Y., on August 29, 1938; B.A., Hamilton College, Clinton, N.Y., 1960; United States Army Reserve, 1961; foreign service officer, United States Department of State, 1962–1972; staff, Representative Thomas S. Foley of Washington, 1972–1981; staff, House Majority Whip, 1981–1986; staff, House Majority Leader, 1987–1989; staff, Speaker of the House, 1989–1992; appointed Sergeant at Arms of the United States House of Representatives for the One Hundred Second Congress, and elected Sergeant at Arms of the House of Representatives for the One Hundred Third Congress (March 12, 1992–January 4, 1995); private advocate; died on July 11, 2014, in Cincinnati, Ohio.
