Internships

In both my Washington DC office as well as my office in Lacey, internships run throughout the fall, spring and summer. Although all internships are unpaid, students gain invaluable work experience and my office is happy to assist interns who qualify for academic credit. The hours are flexible to accommodate hectic schedules, but generally run from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

Washington DC

In Washington DC, interns’ responsibilities will include helping staff with correspondence and research, leading tours of the U.S. Capitol, as well as greeting guests, answering phones, and assisting with other front-office duties. As a result, interns learn about the legislative process and the many other functions of a congressional office.

If you would like to apply for a Congressional Internship in my office, please send your resume, cover letter, two references, and work availability to Nick Vargish at Nick.Vargish@mail.house.gov. Please indicate in the body of your email whether you would be interested in a legislative internship or a press internship.

All application are reviwed on a rolling basis.

DC Internship Deadlines:

Summer 2017: April 14th, 2017

Fall 2017: August 4th, 2017

Washington State (Lacey, WA)

In my Washington State District office, interns may perform a variety of duties, including general office work such as answering phones, greeting constituents and visitors, and writing letters.  In addition, interns may be assigned to assist constituents on personal matters involving federal agencies (case work) or to work on District-based projects.
