HOPE

Dec 19, 2016
Dear friends,

In this season of hope, 200 community and business leaders joined me for my 4th annual Hunger and Homelessness summit in an effort to pool our collective resources and ideas. It’s an effort to bring about more opportunities for the hundreds of people in our community who find themselves without a job, home or warm meal this Christmas - and throughout the year.

It was our largest summit to date and we also had a wider cross-section of interested parties and organizations than ever before. It served as both a networking event as well as a great opportunity for me to solicit feedback about my forthcoming “Rural Revival” legislative initiative; which I look forward to sharing with you in the new year. One month from tomorrow Donald J. Trump will be sworn-in as the 45th President of the United States. The peaceful transition of our government is an awesome event and reminds us of that which is truly special – and unique – about our country. Rachel and I were fortunate to talk about this great time in our nation’s history on Fox’s “Fox & Friends”. Click on the image below to watch:

One more thing before you go: It was a very special #ThankACopThursday in honor of the newest members of the Capitol Police's K-9 unit! After 12 weeks of intense training, it was finally graduation day for Primi (shown below), eight of his 4-legged colleagues, and their handlers last Thursday. If you see one of these dogs on your visit to the U.S. Capitol, give them a tip of your hat (but no petting while they are working!) Thank you to all of our K-9 officers (and your handlers) for your service to our nation.

Merry Christmas: The anticipation of the birth of our Savior later this week is palpable in the Duffy house. As we wait in joyful hope for His arrival, we offer prayers of gratitude for the many blessings we have received, and prayers of hope for our less-fortunate neighbors: That they may have a warm place to stay this Christmas night and that in the year ahead they will know the compassion of their community and feel the healing power of His grace and love. To you and yours: we wish you a safe and very merry Christmas.
