Judicial Nominations

I can assure you that as a Member of the House of Representatives I will labor within the framework of the Constitution to make certain judicial nominees are scrutinized and evaluated on their impartiality and diligence in applying the Constitution; not re-writing laws according to their own political views. I have always reached over to my colleagues in the Senate to sure they have a further understanding of the Constitutional implications of their judicial nominating selections. I consider this a responsibility of the utmost importance.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Upon reviewing the decision handed down yesterday by the Supreme Court in the case of Zivotofsky v. Kerry, co-Chair of the Israel Allies Caucus, Representative Trent Franks, issued the following statement:

Huge move. Rep. Trent Franks and Sen. Jim DeMint last Tuesday introduced a measure seeking to amend the U.S. Constitution to allow parents to raise children in the way they see fit. The Parental Rights Amendment would impose a “compelling interest” test on government entities before they interfere with parents’ rights to direct their children’s education or other aspects of their upbringing.

Doesn’t human life, especially at its most vulnerable, deserve the same protection if not more than the life of a raccoon or a skunk? I would wager to say the average person would answer yes, but the Council of the District of Columbia, and the District’s non-voting delegate to the U.S. House of Representatives, have a different response.
