Shimkus Statement on FCC’s Latest Set-Top Box Proposal
WASHINGTON – After reviewing the Federal Communication Commission’s (FCC) latest set-top box proposal, Congressman John Shimkus (R, Illinois-15) released the following statement:
“Today’s television market offers consumers more platforms and programming to choose from than at any time in history. It is nonsense to suggest that consumers would be better off allowing the FCC to micromanage the system of privately negotiated licensing agreements under which consumer choice continues to expand. Not only is FCC’s latest set top box proposal a solution in search of a problem, it goes far beyond the Commission’s statutory authority under the Communications Act. Chairman Wheeler needs to realize that government regulations and mandates don’t produce more innovation and competition.”
