2nd Amendment
The right to keep and bear arms is enshrined in the 2nd Amendment of the Constitution.
Where I Stand
The right to keep and bear arms is enshrined in the Second Amendment of the Constitution. The federal government should protect the rights of law-abiding citizens to own firearms. During my years in Congress, I have been a consistent voice on behalf of gun owners and have opposed legislation that seeks to chip away at the constitutional rights of Americans.
Legislative Action from the 114th Congress
Cosponsored Legislation
H.R. 3126 - Would prohibit the Commissioner of Social Security from furnishing the name of any individual in a report to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System unless a Federal court has determined the individual to be mentally defective.
H.R. 2710 - The Lawful Purpose and Self Defense Act - which would provide a number of needed protections against gun-control initiatives such as eliminating the ATF’s authority to reclassify popular rifle ammunition as “armor piercing ammunition”; providing for the lawful importation of any non-NFA firearm or ammunition that may otherwise be lawfully possessed and sold within the United States; protecting shotguns, shotgun shells, and larger caliber rifles from arbitrary classification as “destructive devices”; and broadening the temporary interstate transfer provision to allow temporary transfers for all lawful purposes rather than just for “sporting purposes.”
H.R. 2611 - The Collectible Firearms Protection Act - which would allow for the legal importation of M1 Garand rifles and M1 carbines from South Korea, which are currently being blocked from importation by the State Department.
H.R. 578 - The Recreational Lands Self-Defense Act - which would allow legal gun owners to possess a firearm on Corps of Engineers property.
