Mulvaney to Address Commencement

UNION — University of South Carolina Union will welcome John Michael “Mick” Mulvaney as the commencement speaker for the university’s Commencement Exercises. They will be held on Saturday, April 30 at 6 p.m. in the USC Union Auditorium at 401 E Main Street.
 
A lifelong Carolinas resident, Mr. Mulvaney attended Georgetown University where he graduated with honors in International Economics, Commerce, and Finance. After college, Mr. Mulvaney attended law school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He completed his formal education at Harvard Business School’s OPM program in 2006.
 
Mr. Mulvaney has broad business experience across many fields. Following graduation from law school, he practiced law and eventually opened his own firm. He later ran his family’s real estate business, then started a small home building company. Mr. Mulvaney has been a minority shareholder in a restaurant franchise company. He has also been a columnist for his local paper and an occasional college lecturer.
 
Using his educational, professional, and business background, Mr. Mulvaney has been able to bring a focus on jobs, business, and the economy to work his work in Congress. He currently serves on the House Financial Services Committee as well as the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. He previously served on the Committee on Small Business and the Budget Committee.
 
Mr. Mulvaney has been active locally, as a founding member of the Indian Land Rotary Club, a youth baseball coach, and a member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church and founding member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Mission. What little free time he has is spent gardening, golfing, and writing. Mr. Mulvaney and his wife, Pam, were married in 1998, and are the proud parents of triplets.
 
Due to limited seating, admission into the USC Union Auditorium for the Commencement Exercises is by ticket only for everyone except the Platform party, faculty members and graduating students. Guests who arrive after 5:50 p.m. may not be admitted into the Auditorium. Ceremony will begin promptly at 6:00 p.m. No children under the age of six will be admitted in to the Auditorium. There will be a live broadcast of the ceremony in the Truluck Activity Center and tickets are not required for that location. All guests are invited to the reception in the Main Building Lobby immediately following the ceremony.
