Budget

Changes are needed in Washington to create a better environment for businesses to grow and families to prosper, because our current path is unsustainable. Our national debt has increased to almost $20,000,000,000,000. It's disappointing that the discussion about our debt has faded away in the last few years. I will continue to draw attention to this issue and work to bring accountability to the way Washington spends money.

One of my first actions as your U.S. Representative was to cosponsor a Balanced Budget Amendment (H.J.Res. 1) and to join the Balanced Budget Amendment Caucus.  I co-authored Cut, Cap, and Balance which cut spending, capped spending, and provided for a Balanced Budget Amendment to the Constitution.  Additionally, my office has returned hundreds of thousands of dollars from my office budget to the U.S. Treasury over the past few years.

I am committed to taking the necessary steps to get our financial house in order. At a time when millions of Americans must tighten their belts, Congress needs to do the same. The actions we've taken so far are only a start – we must continue working to ensure our country's financial books are in order in the short term and for future generations as well.
