SUPPORTING THE BACKBONE OF OUR MILITARY
Op-Ed by Congressman Sanford D. Bishop Jr. (GA-02)
Veterans’ Vision
Without a doubt, our service members are the lifeblood of our great nation. We must also remember that the strength of our military is drawn from the resilience of their families—and they too make tremendous sacrifices for our country.
Georgia’s Poultry Industry and its Impact on the Local Economy and Global Trade
The Fourth of July has always been a time for communities to reflect on the journey of this great nation. As we celebrate our nation’s birth, we must never forget the provisions of justice, freedom, and equality set forth in the dreams of our forefathers as established in the Declaration of Independence and our Constitution.
To the Constituents of the Second Congressional District in the greater Macon area,
First and foremost, it is my absolute pleasure to greet you as your Congressman! It has been seventeen years since my office last served the good people of Bibb County, and I am blessed to be back in Macon once again.
Our service members and veterans are the lifeblood of our great nation. They frequently are called to put themselves in harm’s way to safeguard our homeland and defend our liberties. Their sacrifices must never go unnoticed or unrewarded. We as a nation shall forever be indebted to those brave individuals who make up our armed forces units, the strongest military in the world.
As final preparations get underway for the dedication of the memorial to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on the National Mall, it is important that we all reflect upon and applaud the many outstanding achievements of this great American patriot and iconic humanitarian. With his life he proved that non-violence is an effective way of perfecting social change.
As a nation, we tend to focus primarily on the service members who willingly put themselves in harm's way to protect the freedoms that we cherish. However, we often forget that the families they leave behind sacrifice just as much as our heroes do. These families are affected in countless ways, and we have an obligation to do right by them.
Washington, DC – Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-2) today issued the following statement on the passage of the Development, Relief & Education for Alien Minors Act (DREAM Act) by the U.S. House of Representatives on December 8, 2010:
Congress has adjourned until after the November elections without casting a vote on a concern vital to the nation’s economic recovery – extending tax relief to all Americans. I am extremely disappointed that given the delicate state of the economy, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi did not schedule a vote on this important issue.
