Veterans
I salute the men and women who put on their uniform every day to serve and protect our country. I also take my hat off to their families. They give so much in sharing their husband, wife, mother, father, brother, sister, and other relatives with the citizens of the United States. This is a tremendous sacrifice, and we must honor that sacrifice.
The Fifth Congressional District is home to a great number of veterans, and I consider it an honor to serve these brave Americans. In Congress, I work to ensure that we fulfill our commitment to pay tribute to our troops and their service to the nation. It is our duty to ensure that these brave men and women receive proper medical care, access to affordable education, and an honest pension.
On the battlefield, the military pledges to leave no soldier behind. As a nation, let it be our pledge that when they return home, we leave no veteran behind.

U.S. Representative John Lewis (D-Ga.) announced today that the 5th District was granted $700,000 in affordable housing funding from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta (FHLBank Atlanta), one of the 12 district banks in the Federal Home Loan Bank System.

“Today, while Congress was not in session, I took the opportunity to visit the Atlanta VA Medical Center in Decatur. I met with the new Director there, Leslie Wiggins, who has only been on staff for seven days. I toured the facility, was able to ask questions and get answers about the new direction Ms. Wiggins hopes to take in leading the institution to a new and better future.
