Department of Defense Finally Provides Witness Requested Months Ago

Washington, D.C. – Select Committee on Benghazi Press Secretary Matt Wolking released the following statement after the Department of Defense finally provided a witness the committee first requested to interview several months ago:

“The committee will not allow the Defense Department’s needless delays to stop it from interviewing a witness it sought to speak with several months ago. The committee’s proposed report can be updated with any new testimony when it is marked up and voted on. Chairman Gowdy intends to release this and other witness interview transcripts once the administration clears them for public release.”

The witness is an individual who claimed on his Facebook page that he was a crew chief at an air base in Europe the night of the attacks. The relevant Facebook post did not include a hashtag, as Democrats dishonestly claimed in order to paint the request as politically-motivated. The request to interview him was only made after DOD did not answer a simple question in February that would either confirm or deny the allegations. DOD then stated interviewing this witness was unnecessary. DOD finally confirmed Tuesday he was available for an interview Wednesday.
