Washington – Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) released the following statement after Colombian activist Wilmar Córdoba Ferero was killed:

“In countries around the world, activists risk their lives and the lives of their families in order to advance justice. Wilmar Córdoba Ferero fought for the rights of Colombia’s indigenous people knowing his life was in danger. His death is a loss for every person fighting for human rights across the world, whether they are in South America, Africa, North Dakota, or Southeast Asia.

“I call on President Santos and Colombian authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and bring the perpetrators to justice as soon as possible.  I also call on the Colombian government to provide adequate security measures to guarantee the safety of Wilmar’s family.”
