Art Competition
Each spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent throughout the nation. Since the competition began in 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have participated representing all congressional districts.
I am proud to have the opportunity to select a new student to represent California’s 35th Congressional District, which includes Bloomington, Chino, Montclair, Ontario, Pomona, and portions of Fontana (South of Interstate 210) and Rialto (South of Foothill Boulevard). This year’s theme is "Imagine Tomorrow." The culmination of the competition will be the year-long display of the winning artwork in the U.S. Capitol Complex. You do not need to be an art student to enter or to win. There is no fee to enter or participate.
To enter competition:
1) Please submit the Student Information & Release Form located below. This form must be filled out and received no later than 5:00 PM, Monday March 7th, 2016. It can be FAXed to my District Office at (909) 941-1362.
2) Drop off Art: Starting Wednesday, March 9th to Thursday, March 10th from 8:00 a.m. – 6:45 p.m. at my District Office, 3200 Inland Empire Boulevard, Suite 200B, Ontario, CA 91764.
All entered art work must adhere to this year’s theme "Imagine Tomorrow" and will be displayed at the Museum of History & Art, Ontario, located at 225 South Euclid Avenue, Ontario, CA for public display from Thursday, March 24th through Sunday, March 27th. The winner will be announced at the Art Forum on Thursday, March 31st from 5:30PM to 7:00PM at the Museum of History & Art, Ontario.
The Congressional Art Competition is open to all high school students in the 35th District. The winning artwork of our district's competition will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol. The exhibit in Washington will include the winning artwork from all participating districts from around the country. The winning artwork is also featured on House.gov's Congressional Art Competition page.
The following is a summary of the Congressional Art Competition rules:
Artwork entered in the contest may be up to 28 inches by 28 inches, may be up to 4 inches in depth, and not weigh more than 15 pounds. If your artwork is selected as the winning piece, it must arrive framed and must still measure no larger than the above maximum dimensions.

Paintings - including oil, acrylics, and watercolor

Drawings - including pastels, colored pencil, pencil, charcoal, ink, and markers (it is recommended that charcoal and pastel drawings be fixed.)

Collages - must be two dimensional

Prints - including lithographs, silkscreen, and block prints

Mixed Media - use of more than two mediums such as pencil, ink, watercolor, etc.

Computer-generated art

Photography
All entries must be original in concept, design, and execution and may not violate any U.S. copyright laws. Any entry that has been copied from an existing photo or image (including a painting, graphic, or advertisement) that was created by someone other than the student is a violation of the competition rules and will not be accepted. Work entered must be in the original medium (that is, not a scanned reproduction of a painting or drawing).
