Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Madeleine Z. Bordallo raised Guam’s continued H-2B visa challenges during a hearing of the House Committee on Natural Resources’ Subcommittee on Indian, Insular, and Alaska Native Affairs. Congresswoman Bordallo noted that the denials of H-2B visas have had adverse impacts on Guam’s construction and health care industries, and noted her work to address the H-2B challenges through a provision she included in the House-passed FY17 defense authorization bill as well as with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Madeleine Z. Bordallo today announced that the U.S. House of Representatives has passed H.R. 4909, the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2017 by a vote of 277 yeas to 147 noes. The bill includes the two amendments offered by Congresswoman Bordallo that were made in order by the House Rules Committee last night.

Congresswoman Madeleine Z. Bordallo testifies before the House Committee on Rules on amendments to H.R. 4909, the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2017. She requested that an amendment to grant U.S. Customs and Immigration Services with flexibility in extending H-2B visas on Guam be made in order. She also requested that an amendment to include, H.R. 44, as modified, the Guam Loyalty Recognition Act, as a provision of the NDAA be made in order.

Hagåtña, Guam – Congresswoman Madeleine Z. Bordallo today visited the Guam Small Business Development Center at the University of Guam. The Guam SBDC is part of the Pacific Islands SBDC Network, which operates branches in Guam, the CNMI, Palau, Kosrae, Yap and Chuuk. The Network has supported economic development in the region by providing one-on-one counseling and training to local entrepreneurs.
