McKinley: The American People Demand Accountability and Answers

Washington, D.C.—This week, the House took several important steps to hold the Obama Administration accountable and uncover the truth about Benghazi and the IRS scandal.

“These actions taken by the House are serious and only used in extreme circumstances,” said Rep. McKinley. “The American people deserve to know the facts after months of stonewalling by this Administration. The pattern of obstruction and failure to tell the truth must stop.”

Yesterday, the House voted to hold former IRS official Lois Lerner in Contempt of Congress for refusing to tell the truth before House Committees.

“When rogue IRS bureaucrats knowingly delayed the tax-exempt status of conservative and faith groups, someone must be held accountable,” added McKinley. “Certain groups are blatantly being targeted by a government agency because their beliefs run contrary to a political agenda. That’s unacceptable and a slap in the face to every American.”

Today, Rep. McKinley voted to convene a Special Committee on Benghazi to investigate the attack at the Benghazi Consulate that killed four Americans.  While the House has already had four separate Committees conduct oversight and investigations and a dozen hearings on Benghazi, this will allow a full accounting of the truth.

“The families of the four brave Americans who lost their lives during the terrorist attack in Benghazi also deserve straight answers,” said McKinley. “When questioning Administration officials about these scandals, we continue to see a pattern of hiding the truth. We will not rest until the truth finally surfaces and all the questions are answered.”
