McKinley Statement on House's Rejection of the Iran Deal

Congressman David B. McKinley, P.E., (WV-1) voted today against President Obama’s disastrous nuclear deal with Iran. The deal, announced in July, was rejected by a bipartisan vote with 269 voting to oppose the deal.

This is a bad deal, and there are better alternatives. The entire premise of this agreement is wrong – Iran does not wish to pursue a peaceful nuclear program. If they were, they would not need 6,000 centrifuges, an underground nuclear facility, and access to ballistic missiles. Russia and France both offered to provide the nuclear reactor fuel rods to create electricity if Iran would suspend its uranium enrichment program. The President should reject Iran’s hollow promises and return to the negotiating table,” McKinley said.

Earlier in the week, Democrats in the Senate blocked an up-or-down vote on the Iran nuclear deal.

It is an outrage that Senate Democrats would break their word on a previously negotiated agreement and block an up-or-down vote on this deal. A minority of 42 Senators should not be setting America’s foreign policy on their own. What Senator Reid did was shameful,” McKinley added.
