Wheeling Intelligencer: GOP Leaders Meet At State Capitol

West Virginia's state and federal Republican leaders agree that jobs, education, energy and transportation will top their platform in 2015.

The state's top Republicans met Monday at the Capitol Building in Charleston, the first in a series of meetings to foster cooperation between both levels of government.

Rep. Shelley Moore Capito, Rep. David McKinley, Rep.-elect Evan Jenkins, Rep.-elect Alex Mooney, Attorney General Patrick Morrisey, state Senate President-elect Bill Cole, R-Mercer, and Speaker of the House-elect Tim Armstead, R-Kanawha, met in a closed-door session Monday morning, then spoke with reporters about their plans for collaboration and cooperation.

McKinley said he hopes these quarterly meetings will take place at different locations throughout the state so representatives can speak with constituents and learn more about their needs and concerns.

"People want to know government is responding," he said. "We're not going to have them come to Washington. Let's go to them."
