WDTV TV: EPA hearings: UMWA fighting for livelihood

On Thursday, members of the United Mine Workers of America made their voices heard loud and clear. Nearly 7,000 protesters marched their way through the city streets of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in order to protest the Environmental Protection Agency's proposed Clean Power Plan.

The day began with a rally that was held at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. UMWA members and other coal supporters walked to the steps of the William S. Moorehead Federal Building where public hearings were being held by the EPA. UMWA President Cecil Roberts and other UMWA board members were arrested for civil disobedience.

"This is an expression of leadership in the union and solidarity with our members. We have jobs on the line, our healthcare is on the line, our pensions are on the line and that's what it's all about," said Roberts.
