Parkersburg News and Sentinel: Officials seek water testing

West Virginia's congressional delegation has asked the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for further studies into the Elk River chemical spill.

Reps. Shelley Moore Capito, David McKinley and Nick Rahall and Sens. Joe Manchin and Jay Rockefeller wrote a letter to the CDC in support of additional monitoring, surveillance and studies requested by Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin.

The letter is the latest in the aftermath of the Jan. 9 spill of a toxic chemical from Freedom Industries into the Elk River, upstream of an intake to the West Virginia American Water Co. The incident disrupted the water supplies for 300,000 people in Kanawha and surrounding counties and reports still linger of tainted water.
