Parkersburg News and Sentinel: McKinley, Manchin talk about speech

Republicans, Democrats and the president can work together in several areas cited in President Obama's State of the Union speech, a West Virginia lawmaker said Wednesday.

"Education is foremost," Rep. David McKinley, R-W.Va., said. McKinley and Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., held press conferences Wednesday with reporters from the 1st Congressional District and statewide about Obama's speech on Tuesday night.

Judith Winans, the Wood County Teacher of the Year, was McKinley's guest in the chambers of the House of Representatives during the speech.

McKinley said he was looking for three topics in the speech, the economy, how to make health care better and controlling or reducing spending.

"Is this the best economy we can have in America," said.
