New incinerator helps fight prescription drug abuse in WV

Nearly 2.5 tons of prescription drugs were collected across West Virginia as part of National Drug Takeback Day.

On Sept. 30, sheriff's deputies, West Virginia State Police Troopers and U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin gathered at the Putnam County Courthouse to unveil a new mobile incinerator that will destroy those pills.

“What I see is lives saved,” said Goodwin. “You know we lead the nation in drug overdose deaths.”
