Mining extension honors 100 years

WVU and local dignitaries gathered on Thursday, Sept. 11, to celebrate a milestone for one of WVU’s most prominent extension efforts.

The WVU Mining and Industrial Extension celebrated 100 years with a gathering and demonstrations. Mine safety boils down to two aspects, conditions and practices, said Bill Raney, president of the West Virginia Coal Association.

“Extension makes sure [miners] know safe conditions and safe practices,” he said.
