House to vote on Ex-Im extension – Megabus town hall – Amtrak, STB bills get markups – Taxi vs. ridesharing on the web

House and Senate lawmakers are back in session today after a long weekend, and they face a busy agenda that includes a must-pass CR to avoid another government shutdown. After the House put off a vote last week, members should take a roll call sometime this week on the funding bill, which would keep the government open through Dec. 11 and extend the charter of the Export-Import Bank through June. Re-upping the Ex-Im Bank has provoked quite the PR and lobbying battle between Boeing, which gets assistance from the bank for airplanes sales overseas, and Delta, which argues that the bank helps its foreign competitors that buy Boeing planes.

Monday: Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx will be in Detroit to hype a $12 million TIGER grant for the M-1 streetcar (Detroit News: http://bit.ly/1tJ1awP). And Rep. David McKinley will conduct a “Megabus Mobile Town Hall” meeting, letting students from West Virginia and Fairmont State universities chat with the congressman during a ride on a Megabus from Morgantown, W.Va., to D.C.

Tuesday: House Transportation Chairman Bill Shuster will be among the speakers at an aviation summit organized by The Hill and Airlines for America. Held at the National Press Club, the event also features American Airlines CEO Doug Parker and other top aviation officials. In the afternoon, Sen. Claire McCaskill’s Commerce panel holds a hearing on NHTSA and what changes could be made to avoid another debacle like the GM ignition switch recalls. GM has taken most of the heat for the fatal flaw, but some on the Hill say that more funding for NHTSA would help prevent such a widespread problem in the future.
