Fairmont's fall 2014 paving list announced

City officials have announced the fall 2014 paving list, which they say will bring the investment in the city’s roads since the start of a user fee for Fairmont’s workers and residents to about $4.5 million.

Shortly after Labor Day weekend, more than 10,000 tons of asphalt will be placed on streets in five target areas, including the East Side, West Side, Watson, Bellview and downtown areas.

After the end of the four-week paving period, depending on whether the weather cooperates throughout the process, some roads that haven’t seen a fresh coat of pavement in 40 years will be repaved by crews from Stone Paving out of Preston County with the assistance of public works employees, who do a lot of the prep work as well as traffic control during paving.
