Exponent-Telegram: Panel convenes to dissect issues facing rural healthcare

Medical providers, insurers and others gathered Monday in Morgantown to diagnose the challenges facing rural health care in West Virginia and to prescribe ways for overcoming them.

U.S. Rep. David McKinley, R-W.Va., and West Virginia University President E. Gordon Gee moderated the rural health care forum at WVU’s Erickson Alumni Center.

“Statistically, we’re not one of the healthiest states in the country, and primarily it’s because we’re rural,” McKinley told more than 50 people attending the forum.

McKinley noted that his urban colleagues in the House of Representatives don’t appreciate the issues that rural Americans cope with in terms of health care.
