Dominion Post: New Armory has community in mind

The new Morgantown Readiness Center offers a state-of-the-art facility to serve the needs of the National Guard and the Morgantown community.

“The old armory was never designed for anything in mind other than military functions,” said Chief Warrant Officer Tom Goff. “The whole thing [about the new facility] was designed with what we could do for the community in mind.”

The new armory features classrooms and a learning center available for public use along with a drill hall that can be used for banquets or other functions.

The new facility also sports a National Guard recruiting officer, Veterans’ Affairs Office, physical training center and support facilities for the units stationed in Morgantown.

“The old armory was built in 1962 or ‘63 so in 50 years a lot of people have joined the guard and retired without ever setting foot inside a new facility. It’s something very exciting for people in the National Guard,” Goff said.
