Dominion Post: McKinley meets with Eastwood teachers

MORGANTOWN — Ten Eastwood Elementary teachers and administrators shared some of their concerns and challenges with Rep. David McKinley during a roundtable at the school Tuesday afternoon, March 29.

Three interlocking issues kept cropping up: Student poverty, mental health and engagement.

McKinley told the group he uses the weeks Congress isn’t in session to visit the communities in his district. He makes about 250 visits per year. This was his 161st Morgantown visit and Eastwood was one of his stops.

McKinley spent about 90 minutes with the group. Principal Deann Hartshorn was pleased he took the time. She said afterward, “Anytime I sit down with lawmakers and have a discussion, it’s always better because that’s how we’ll see change.”
