All W.Va. reps support military action against ISIS

West Virginia’s entire congressional delegation said it supports expanded military action against the Islamic State after President Obama laid out a plan Wednesday night for airstrikes and increased support for arming and training opposition fighters in Syria.

Of West Virginia’s five representatives, Rep. Nick J. Rahall, who said the Islamic State “must be forcefully addressed,” was the most hesitant in his support of military action.

“Any commitment of American resources and lives should be done as part of a broad coalition of allies,” Rahall, a Democrat, said in a prepared statement. “The war powers being claimed by this president are sweeping. There must be a congressional debate, and no American combat troops should be deployed without specific congressional authorization.”
