The security of our nation’s information technology networks and the data stored in them must be a top priority for Congress. Consumers, corporations, students, and the public sector all rely on using safe and secure communications to complete transactions, to contact family, and to advance their business. Any lack of confidence in the privacy and security of the information exchanged would have a far-reaching and chilling effect on our society and our economy.

Rep. Eshoo was a primary contributor to the House Intelligence Committee’s White Paper on Cybersecurity and has pressed for increased oversight of the nation’s cybersecurity efforts. She has also worked to increase greater cooperation with private industry in addressing the vulnerabilities to our networks and supply chain.

During the 112th Congress, Rep. Eshoo co-chaired a bipartisan Communications and Technology Cybersecurity Working Group on cybersecurity.

In the 113th Congress, Rep. Eshoo voted against H. R. 624, the Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act (CISPA). While Rep. Eshoo continues to advocate for legislation that deters cyber criminals, including research and development, consumer education, supply chain integrity and information sharing, legislation must ensure strong protections for our privacy and civil liberties.

In May 2013, Rep. Eshoo was appointed co-chair of a bipartisan working group that will examine the security of our nation’s communications supply chain.
