International trade is an essential component of a strong American economy, and reducing the barriers for American companies and goods to enter new markets will boost economy growth and help to create jobs. Increased trade has added trillions of dollars in additional income to our economy. Free and fair trade agreements with our democratic allies are vital to strengthening our bilateral relationships, and also help to create jobs in our own community.
We can do far more to increase economic growth through international trade. While I was Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, the United States enacted Free Trade Agreements with Colombia, Panama, and South Korea. These agreements have not only produced economic benefits for the United States, but they are vitally important to our national security interests in Latin America and East Asia.
