In order for the United States to provide for its citizens and promote American ideals overseas, it must first guarantee protection against very real threats from those who would see our Nation fail.  Having served over 26 years in the U.S. Air Force, I have experienced firsthand the strength and success of our Armed Forces in promoting the message of America abroad and at home.  Our military plays a pivotal role in safeguarding not only the lives of individuals, but also the values we hold dear.  I believe we must follow through with our commitments in Iraq and Afghanistan and not only work to transition responsibility to local government and law enforcement, but also make certain that citizens will enjoy the benefits of freedom and democracy moving forward.  Our work to protect our homeland is no less important.  I believe that America should have a rigorous policy that takes action on multiple fronts to prevent acts of terrorism.  Increasing communication between law enforcement and the intelligence community and a strong, capable missile defense system are of the utmost importance in preventing another national tragedy from happening again.
