Congressman Trent Franks

Representing the 8th District of Arizona

FAITH

I am committed to protecting and restoring religious freedom for all members of the human family.

We must never forget that our nation was founded by those who fled their country seeking to preserve the inalienable right of religious liberty. Throughout the history of our nation, people have left their homes in the cover of night to escape to the United States due to the religious persecution in their own countries. Unfortunately, in many places in the world today, the right to choose and practice one’s faith is still not protected. This is why I find it so very imperative that we as a nation continue to work to eliminate violations of religious freedom. Constitutionally guaranteed religious freedom creates a critical framework for discussion and debate. It has the power to turn the war of weapons into a war of words.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Franks released the following tribute to commemorate the life of Phyllis Schlafly upon her passing at age 92:

"My dear friend Phyllis Schlafly has gone on to receive her Heavenly reward. I think it is important for all of us to acknowledge that the conservative landscape we now see never would have come about apart from the life, love, brilliance and courage of Phyllis Schlafly.

Local eyewitnesses (along with Fox News, ARA News, and other outlets) are reporting that on Thursday last week in Mosul, Iraq, the Islamic State placed 19 Yezidi girls in iron cages and, before a crowd of hundreds, burned them alive for refusing to be their sex slaves.  This is the state in which President Obama will leave the Middle East.  It did not have to come to this, and would not have come to this if not for the serially heartless and incompetent decisions this President has made during his tenure as America’s Commander-in-Chief.  Tragically, this will be his true legacy.
