CONGRESSIONAL BLACK CAUCUS SPOUSES EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIPS

The CBC Spouses Flexible Education Scholarship was established in 2008 as a partnership between the CBC Spouses and the University of Phoenix.  This program was developed to award students seeking an associate's, bachelor's or master's degree online and or on campus at the University of Phoenix. The mission of the program is to advance educational opportunities for underrepresented and nontraditional groups in higher education. Preference will be given to applicants who are economically disadvantaged and who have experienced hardships, such as homelessness or inability to complete a previously started degree program.  Administered through CBCF, 25 full-tuition scholarships will be awarded. For more information and to download an application, click here.

The CBC Spouses Education Scholarship was established in 1988 in response to federal cuts in spending for education programs and scholarships. This is the foundation’s first educational program. The CBC Spouses Educational Scholarship is a national program that awards scholarships to academically talented and highly motivated students who intend to pursue full-time undergraduate, graduate or doctoral degrees.

The CBC Spouses Cheerios Brand Health Initiative Scholarship was established in 1998 to provide financial assistance to undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students pursuing careers in a health related profession.

Guidelines
The CBC Spouses program seeks to identify students who will make significant contributions to their communities. Applicants must meet the following requirements in order to be eligible for the CBC Spouses Scholarship Programs:

  • high school seniors who intend to pursue undergraduate degrees full-time or current full-time students in good academic standing at an accredited college or university.
  • applicants must have a minimum 2.5 GPA, exhibit leadership ability and participate in community service activities.
  • all applicants must reside or attend a college/university in a congressional district represented by a Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) Member.

Completed applications for the CBC Spouses Education and Cheerios Brand Health Initiative must be received by Monday, June 1, 2009 in the Jonesboro district office, located at 173 North Main Street, Jonesboro, GA 30236. 

The CBC Spouses Performing Arts Scholarship was established in 2000 as a partnership between the CBC Spouses and Heineken USA. This program was developed in honor of the late Curtis Mayfield to ensure students pursuing a career in the performing arts receive the financial assistance to achieve their goals. The CBC Spouses Performing Arts Scholarship is highly competitive. Only ten $3,000 scholarships are awarded annually to students who exhibit exceptional skills in the performing arts. 

The CBC Spouses Visual Arts Scholarship was established in 2006 for students who are pursing a career in the visual arts.

The CBC Spouses program seeks to identify students who will make significant contributions to their communities. Applicants must meet the following requirements in order to be eligible for the CBC Spouses Scholarship Programs: 

  • be preparing to pursue a degree full-time, or be a current full-time student in good academic standing at an accredited college or university.
  • have a minimum 2.5 GPA.

CONGRESSIONAL BLACK CAUCUS FOUNDATION/WAL-MART STRIVE FOR EXCELLENCE SCHOLARSHIP

The CBCF/Wal-Mart Strive for Excellence scholarship was established in 2006 with a generous gift from Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. to expand CBCF scholarship and internship programs. Wal-Mart believes in a philosophy of operating globally and giving back locally. Accordingly, scholarship recipients have demonstrated the potential to make the greatest impact on the local community. The CBCF/Wal-Mart Strive for Excellence scholarship requires that the CBC Member elect to participate in the program.

Guidelines
To be eligible for the CBCF/Wal-Mart Strive for Excellence scholarship, applicants must:

  • be preparing to pursue an undergraduate degree full-time or be a current full-time student in good academic standing at an accredited college or university.
  • have a minimum 2.5 GPA, demonstrate academic achievement, exhibit leadership ability, and participate in community service act ivies.
  • reside or attend school in a congressional district represented by a CBC Member.

The Turkish Coalition of America Scholarship

The Turkish Coalistion of America Scholarship  provides funding for 100 minority students from the US to help subsidize their study abroad program, if they chose to study in Turkey.  The purpose of this scholarship is to encourage African American, Latino American and Native American students to study abroad in Turkey.  The goal of the program is to help fulfill the mission of the TCA to build bridges between cultures and understanding between peoples through education.
