McKinley Votes to Approve Keystone Pipeline, End Six Years of Delay

Washington, D.C.- Today Rep. David B. McKinley, P.E. (R-WV) voted to send to the President’s desk legislation to approve the Keystone XL Pipeline. The project, which has been delayed for 2,336 days, would create an estimated 42,000 American jobs and generate billions in economic activity. Despite the benefits, President Obama has threatened to veto the bill.

“The Obama Administration has used every excuse in the book to delay this project and they are literally out of excuses,”said McKinley. “After six years of delays, the President’s posturing, delays, and veto threats defy common sense.”

“Do they really think stopping Keystone will prevent this oil from being produced and used?”McKinley asked. “It will get to market one way or another. America should reap the benefits from the jobs Keystone will create.”

“Transporting oil by pipeline is safer and more efficient than any other option and will create tens of thousands of American jobs for workers in steel, construction, and refining,”said McKinley. “The project is supported by a vast majority of Americans and has bipartisan support from labor unions and businesses.”

“This should be an easy decision, yet the President is letting ideology get in the way. The American people deserve better than the President’s obstructionism,”said McKinley.

The new Republican-led Senate passed S.1, the Keystone XL Pipeline Approval Act, on January 29, 2015. The House passed S. 1 with bipartisan support today, and the bill will head to the White House.
