McKinley: Obama's Broken Promise Hurting America

Washington, D.C. — Today Rep. David B. McKinley, P.E. (R-WV) voted to help small business owners and their employees keep their current health plans without the threat of cancellations due to Obamacare.

“We all remember President Obama’s promises when he was selling his plan to the American people,” said McKinley. “He promised that you could keep your health plan, you could keep your doctor, and premiums would be reduced. It turns out all of those promises were broken.”

This fall as many as 50 million families who have insurance from group plans could start receiving cancellation notices because their plan doesn’t meet burdensome requirements required under Obamacare. The legislation the House passed today (H.R. 3522) will allow people the flexibility to keep their plan if they like it.

“Millions of Americans have already lost coverage due to this flawed law and millions more could lose their coverage in the coming months if we don’t act,” said McKinley. “This common sense fix will give families more choice for their health care, and prevent people from being forced into higher-cost plans that they don’t want and don’t need.”

The bill passed today is just the latest effort by McKinley and the House to protect Americans from the problems with Obamacare. The House has passed more than 50 bills to repeal, defund and reform the health care law, including multiple bills to keep President Obama’s promise and allow families to keep their current plan.

“Over the last year we’ve seen the failures of this health care law on many fronts, from problems with the website to less take home pay,” said McKinley. “The health care law is hurting Americans and holding back our economy. Until we are able to replace this flawed law with a better plan, I will continue to fight to fix the many problems with Obamacare.”
