McKinley Leads Ohio Valley Research Consortium Meeting to Promote Economic Growth, Enhance Research

Washington, D.C. – Congressman David B. McKinley, P.E., (WV-1) hosted the second meeting of the Ohio Valley Research Consortium, a group of local colleges and universities working together to attract research funding to the region. The Consortium will focus on research on drug addiction and opioid abuse, cyber-security, health care, and job creation for our veterans.

“This is a very unique opportunity to work collaboratively to attract research dollars to the region. Bringing more federal investment to schools in the Upper-Ohio Valley is an essential part of boosting their individual research capabilities, while ultimately strengthening our local economy by creating jobs,” said McKinley.

“Today’s meeting was another step towards accomplishing these shared goals,” McKinley said.

Background on the Ohio Valley Research Consortium

Over the last year, Congressman McKinley has met with leaders from the eight participating schools, as well as officials at NIH, to discuss his vision to coordinate this effort.

The goal is to develop a research consortium comprised of colleges and universities located in the Upper Ohio Valley. This group will work on facilitating research in health care, energy, national defense, and other key areas to improve the lives of families in the region.

Today’s meeting was the second gathering of the Ohio Valley Research Consortium. The initial meeting was held in late July. The group will hold recurring meetings to continually advance its common interests.
