McKinley Announces New Funds for Children's Health Research

Washington, D.C.– Congressman David B. McKinley, P.E., (WV-1) announced that WVU will receive a $1.81 million grant over four years from the National Institute of Health (NIH) to support the professional development of pediatricians and their staff.

“If we are going to be a healthy nation, it is very important we prioritize and invest in our children’s health. West Virginia University has always been a leader when it comes to pediatric care and this new grant will allow their faculty and staff to continue to make medical breakthroughs,” said McKinley.

Background

This grant is an Institutional Development Award (IDeA) and will help launch a program call the Environmental Influences on Child Health Outcome (ECHO), to study children’s exposure to a range of environmental factors from pregnancy/birth to early childhood.

Congressman McKinley is a strong supporter of IDeA. In March of this year, he wrote a letter to the Chairman (Rep. Tom Cole) and Ranking Member (Rep. Rosa DeLauro) of the Subcommittee on Labor, HHS, and Education, calling for continued investment to this program.
