Washington, DC– An energy efficiency plan proposed by Congressman David B. McKinley, P.E., (WV-1) passed the House with wide bipartisan support today. The Energy Efficiency Improvement Act encourages owners and tenants to voluntarily improve energy efficiency by using incentives not punishments.

“With over 50 years in the construction industry, I understand what it takes to make our buildings more efficient,” said Rep. McKinley. “Today Congress is sending the President a common sense way to save energy, save money, and create jobs by encouraging voluntary improvements.”

The bill also includes proposals regarding energy efficiency for federal buildings and hot water heaters. Today’s passage in the House sends the bill to President Obama for approval.

“Energy efficiency is a bipartisan issue where Republicans and Democrats can work together. I urge the President to sign this commonsense plan and look forward to continuing to improve efficiency,” said McKinley.
