House Republican Conference Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) released the following statement after the House passed H.R. 5351, legislation introduced by Rep. Jackie Walorski (R-IN) that prohibits the transfer of any individual detained at United States Naval Station, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, known as Gitmo.

“Our facility at Guantanamo Bay plays a crucial role in our ongoing battle against terrorism around the world, and transferring detainees to U.S. soil or to other countries where they could return to the battlefield is not only unnecessary – it’s dangerous,” said McMorris Rodgers. “This is yet another example of the Obama administration putting political goals ahead of the safety, security, and will of the American people. I’m grateful for Rep. Walorski’s work on this bill, and for her leadership as House Republicans work to restore a confident America, where every man, woman, and child in this country feels safe and secure in their lives and in their futures.”
