U.S. Senator John Hoeven

Senator John Hoeven is North Dakota’s senior senator and was reelected to his second Senate term in 2016. He was elected Chairman of the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs in January 2017. As Chairman, Senator Hoeven is focused on addressing the issues of job creation, natural resource management and improving Indian health care, education, public safety and housing. He believes creating jobs and economic opportunities in the nation and in Indian Country will help families and communities succeed.

Prior to his election to the Senate, Senator Hoeven served as governor of North Dakota for a decade, during which time he also served as Chairman of the North Dakota Indian Affairs Commission.  Under his leadership, the state expanded and diversified its economy and gained thousands of new jobs and rising incomes.

 In addition to the Indian Affairs Committee, Senator Hoeven serves on the Senate Appropriations, Agriculture, Energy & Natural Resources and Homeland Security & Governmental Affairs committees.

 Senator Hoeven was born in Bismarck.  He earned a bachelor’s degree from Dartmouth College in 1979 and a master’s degree in business administration from Northwestern University in 1981. 

 Senator Hoeven and his wife Mical (Mikey) live in Bismarck.  They have two children, Marcela and Jack, and three grandsons, Crew, Jaxen and Nash.
