Tom Urges FTC to Crack Down on False Claims by Sports Equipment Makers

September 27, 2016

In a hearing of the U.S. Senate Commerce Committee, Senator Tom Udall highlighted dangerous and deceptive claims by the sports equipment maker "Shock Doctor," which says its mouth guards protect against brain concussions. Udall said such practices put players at unnecessary risk and urged the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to step in and prevent Shock Doctor and other sports equipment manufacturers from marketing their products using false claims about safety.
