Fix AMT Now: Middle Class Taxpayers Can’t Afford to Wait

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell issued a statement Friday regarding House passage of the Democrats’ massive tax increase:



“The last thing the American people need right now is a massive tax increase which would be a dangerous jolt to our economy. Congress must pass a responsible fix to this middle class tax hike, the AMT; a fix that doesn’t replace one massive tax increase on Americans with another.



“The IRS sent Congress a letter warning the Democrat leadership that, unless this problem is fixed before Thanksgiving, the tax returns of 50 million taxpayers—and $75 billion in tax refunds—will be delayed. We must take action to fix the AMT before Thanksgiving—without raising taxes. Middle class taxpayers can’t afford to wait.”

McConnell: Senate Should Pass Peru Free Trade Agreement Before Thanksgiving

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell made the following statement Thursday regarding the need to ratify the free trade agreement with Peru:



“The vote in the House Thursday highlights the strong bipartisan support for broadening our economic development through free trade. The Senate can and should pass the Peru Free Trade Agreement before the Thanksgiving recess. Implementing free trade agreements is a key part of opening the global marketplace to American products and growing good jobs here at home.”

Another ‘Withdrawal Date?’

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell made the following statement Thursday regarding Democrats’ plan to vote on yet another Iraq bill containing a withdrawal date:



“What unfortunate timing for Democrats, announcing yet another attempt at a withdrawal date on a day when the papers are filled with encouraging news from Iraq. While our troops are quelling violence and defeating terrorists in Baghdad and throughout Iraq, Democrats in Washington are trying to choke off funds for our troops in the field.”
