WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell announced Wednesday that he appointed Cheryl “Sherry” Maddox to serve on the Congressional Award Foundation board of directors, which honors young Americans for their accomplishments. The Congressional Award is the United States Congress’ award to young Americans.  The participants, ages 14- to 23-years-old, earn award certificates and medals for reaching goals in four areas: Volunteer Public Service, Personal Development, Physical Fitness and Expedition/Exploration.

Sherry Maddox, of Louisville, currently serves on the board of directors of Safari Club International, which works to protect hunters’ rights and promotes wildlife conservation. She also is president of Sables, which educates youth and adults about conservation and the positive role of hunting. Maddox also works as a staff RN at Norton Suburban Hospital, and she worked for Humana for over 20 years. She is a graduate of the University of Louisville School Of Nursing. 

“Sherry Maddox is a perfect choice for the Congressional Award Foundation,” McConnell said. “I am confident that she will be an outstanding addition to the board. Her commitment to public service is a great example to the youth of Kentucky and across the nation.”
